G H Dovener & Son Funeral Services opened at our current location in 2012, but dates back as far as 1937.
Originally a packing case manufacturer in Weaver Street, Leeds, George Stanley Hawkswell Dovener decided to opened in North Lane as Funeral Directors. George became a City Councillor for Far Headingley and was Deputy Lord Mayor. He also served as President of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD).
G H Dovener & Son Funeral Services provide funeral services within the community of Leeds, West Yorkshire.
We are proud to have a sign language service available.
The team at our funeral home will provide advice at every stage of the funeral planning process, and will arrange an individual and unique funeral to help you celebrate the life of your loved one.
Here at G H Dovener & Son Funeral Services we also offer an affordable prepaid funeral plan, Choice, so that you can arrange and pay for a funeral in advance. This will protect your family from rising costs and remove uncertainty about your wishes.

Funeral Arranger
Helen worked for 33 years in Early Years and Primary Education. She retired as an Assistant Headteacher in April 2022 and joined our team in October 2022.
Helen’s father, Martin J Dodgson, is the former own of Wm Dodgson & Son Funeral Services. He knew Martin Dovener very well. They were lifelong friends and colleagues with an abundance of mutual respect. G H Dovener & Son is a sister funeral home to Wm Dodgson & Son.
Helen is proud to be following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather and to be serving families in the West Park Community.
Outside of work, Helen enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also loves gardening, walking the family dogs and being a member of The Village Voices Choir.
Funeral Arranger
Clare worked as a primary school teacher for 17 years with children aged five to eleven years of age. She joined our team in July 2025 after deciding that a change in career was needed.
She brings with her a wealth of skills including approachability, communication and empathy. Clare is proud to be serving the families at their time of need in and around West Park.
Outside of work, Clare loves gardening, bird watching and walking. She also looks after her family, having 3 children to take care of.
